Meet Dr. Barrera

Naturopathic Doctor & Nutritionist 

Dr. Barrera is passionate about helping people live a vibrant life of wellness while supporting their immune system’s optimal health.  Her own personal journey began when she discovered the healing properties of food and nutrition.  By understanding the impact that food can either be medicinal or harmful, Dr. Barrera was inspired to study nutrition consultation at Bauman College in Berkeley, California, and became a Certified Nutrition Consultant (CNC).

 

She practiced as a nutritionist in Sacramento, California for 2 years before beginning her naturopathic studies in Seattle, Washington.  Her interests include IV therapy, gut microbiology and autoimmune conditions, detoxification with chronic diseases.  She believes in the limitless abilities of the immune system once in parasympathetic mode.

Education: 

  • Bastyr University, Seattle Wa (Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine)

  • Bauman College (Certified Nutrition Consultant)

Experience 

  • 2015 traveled to Nepal to work with the University of Kathmandu’s Dhulikhel Hospital attending physician’s rounds and visiting remote villages.  

  • 2016 traveled to Haiti with Naturopaths Without Borders (NWB) working with their mobile clinics--bringing naturopathic medicine to farmers and villagers.  

  • 2018 traveled to Thailand with NWB to the outskirts of the northern Thai jungle, visiting indigenous residents while providing IV therapy and botanical medicine. 

  • 2018 traveled to Southern France and Italy to learn the art of Gastronome: the art & science of good healthy eating

  • 2016-18 traveled to Washington D.C. to visit Congress and speak on behalf of naturopathic medicine with the Federal Legislative Initiative (DC Fli) and the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) 

  • 2018-19  Preceptorship in the ER Department at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland helped her integrate her learning of naturopathic medicine and conventional medicine in acute settings. 

  • 2018-2019 New England School of Homeopathy (NESH) an 18-month program concurrently during her 2nd and 3rd year of medical school.
